Matt Clemente, Founder/Editor-in-Chief

Matt was Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Syracuse Law and Civic Engagement Forum. He was also a member of the Syracuse Law Review and research assistant for Professor Deborah Kenn. As an undergraduate, Matt studied philosophy and government at Cornell University, where he won the Sherman-Bennett Prize for his senior thesis: “Same Sex Marriage and the Limits of Liberalism.” Matt’s interest in the moral and political debate surrounding same sex marriage continues.  He has published an article entitled “Modern Marriage and Judgmental Liberalism: A Reply to George, Girgis, and Anderson” in the Journal of Law and Social Deviance, and “Modern Marriage and Same-Sex Couples: Expanding the Good of Marriage” in the inaugural issue of SLACE. Matt is a resident of Northeast Pennsylvania.

James Voyles, Managing Editor (Media)

James served as the Managing Editor for the Media division of SLACE. James served on the executive board of several College of Law organizations, was a Student Bar Association Senator, was the research assistant for the College of Law’s transaction drafting professor, and competed on two of the College of Law’s negotiation teams.  In 2013, James and his teammate won the Fordham National Basketball Negotiation Competition. Before law school, James earned a Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution at the University of Utah and a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Brigham Young University.

Derek Wheeler, Managing Editor (Events)/Media Liaison

Derek Wheeler’s responsibilities with SLACE included weekly editing of the blog, promoting public policy relevant events on campus, and recruiting campus groups and their speakers to participate with SLACE. In 2012, Derek led the law school’s chapter of the Federalist Society, hosting presentations on partisan gridlock, the compatibility of conservatism and feminism, and a review of the landmark Supreme Court health care decision just to name a few. Before attending Syracuse University College of Law, he attended Wells College where he received he B.A. in Public Affairs. At Wells, he represented student athletes on campus and before the NCAA.

Frank DeLuccia, Form and Accuracy Editor, Journal Division

Frank served as a Form & Accuracy Editor for the Journal division of the Syracuse Law and Civic Engagement Forum.  Frank was a member of the law school’s National Trial Team and a former member of the Thurgood Marshall Trial Team that placed second at the Northeast regional competition and finished in the top eight at the National competition.  Frank also served on the executive board of the school’s American Constitutional Society and the school’s flag football league.  Before law school, Frank earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Delaware.

Kate Neer, Lead Articles Editor

Kate Neer served as Lead Articles Editor. Ms. Neer has held a number of public service jobs including: the NYS Assembly, where she worked in Assemblyman William Colton’s office, and the office of former US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.  Neer was the Legislative Representative at Capitol Group LLC, a top lobbying and public affairs firm in Albany, New York, for three years prior to returning to her hometown of Syracuse to attend law school.  Ms. Neer spent her summers in a local general practice law firm, Pappas, Cox, Kimpel, Dodd & Levine P.C., and with the General Counsel and Government Relations departments of Time Warner Cable in Manhattan, New York. Kate graduated magna cum laude from the University at Albany with a degree in political science, business and women’s studies.  She also graduated magna cum laude from Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy with a master’s in public administration.
